Today we enjoyed jumping in the pools and running through the sprinklers! It was the perfect day for our campers to enjoy some of the sun.

Our 2-3 year old campers studied birds and bird habitats this week. We created bird feeders and hung them throughout the trees on our campus. We also made binoculars and went bird watching. We found it was helpful to use our ears to lead the way. Together we designed a birdbath for the birds at our camp to enjoy!
Well, our campers can! This week, we invented a container to hold an egg that would protect it from breaking in such a hard impact. We wrote our ideas on design pages, and then took our theories to the test! Each one of us had our own solutions: Balloons were used to buffer the crash One child carefully wrapped their egg in an entire ball of yarn Packing peanuts were used to for cushioning Paper parachutes Newspaper cushioned capsules Cattail fluff Table cloths were used to make a parachute We found that two plastic fruit cups could fit together to perfectly hold an egg Balloon-suspended newspaper nest Our final egg drop took place on Friday. Family and friends came out for the event. Our campers discussed their designs as well as the changes they made to them after their test run. It was exciting to see what eggs survived! Our campers helped fill our sensory table with sand from our giant sandbox here at PJS. Once their hard work was completed, they worked together to form a giant volcano. We added baking soda and vinegar to our volcano. Our curious campers were amazed to see the reaction! We also learned how to follow a recipe as we created our very own bubble mixture. Campers took turns to mix, pour, and add ingredients into out bowl. It was fun to blow bubbles with our parents at our Friday showcase! Sand Volcanoes We made Bubbles!
This week our 4 and 5 year old campers learned that making and flying a kite is actually much more challenging than it looks! Campers worked together and used skills in math, science, and art to create their very own kites. They were constructed from recyclable materials such as brown paper bags, plastic straws, and Popsicle sticks. They learned that it is important for kites to be sturdy, especially when it’s a windy day! When campers were finished with their projects we went to the top of the playground hill to test our new creations! When we came back inside we asked, what can we do to make our kites better?
Our 2 and 3 year old campers performed bird songs this week. Miss Summer helped us create a giant nest for our performance. We studied different birds and observed their appearance and colors. Viewing real life bird photos helped us design our costumes. It was fun to have our families join us for our performances!
We enjoyed reading The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson all week which inspired our Friday performance. We discussed personality traits of each character in the story and acted those traits out during our performances. All week we worked on the set, scenery, masks, and creating costumes. We were excited to share our performances with our families at the end of the week. Please view some pictures from our week below! |
