The rain at the beginning of our Literature week couldn’t stop us from having fun! Books take us to different places in our imagination and we had an exciting ride this week.
Our Art campers are doing an author study of Lois Ehlert. We are reading many of Ehlert’s books together and bringing them to life through projects and games. We began the week by acting out the book, Waiting for Wings. The campers became storytellers as they grew from tiny eggs to beautiful butterflies. In several books, Ehlert talks about food and after reading Growing Vegetable Soup andEating the Alphabet, we wanted to talk about some of our favorite fruits and vegetables too. We made our own salt dough and then shaped it into healthy foods we like to eat. We baked it in the oven and will soon paint our fruit. During Water Play Wednesday we began making our costumes for the play we will be doing of Lois Ehlert’s book Fish Eyes. Campers painted shirts to mirror the beautiful, colorful fish in the story. We hope to see you on Friday morning at 9am for our play. We can’t wait to share the story with you!
Our Innovation campers have been working on comics this week. They began by reading comic books that ranged from Snoopy to Superman. After a few models, the campers have been working on their own comic story. They also used play dough to bring their comic book characters to life. From illustrations to decoupage, art has been an important part of their work this week. With our Black Rocket team, campers have pursued the creation of Lego characters using the Lego Universe software. These characters will be part of their own comic story. We look forward to seeing you on Friday afternoon at 3pm where campers will share their Lego story and comic book work with you.
See you Friday!
