Our nature week is in full swing and despite the rain today there was much excitement in the air at Princeton Junior School.
Yesterday's Water Play Wednesday was a bright and sunny day perfect for running through the sprinkler and splashing in the pool. The highlight of our water play was making mud pies in the sensory tables. We used ladles to scoop out the mud, pie pans and nature "decorations" such as rocks and flowers. They were delighted by their creations and had the messy hands to prove it.
Our Art campers have been busy taking nature hikes and becoming collectors of natural materials. We gave them the task of finding beautiful things in nature and with so much to choose from, we had bags and bags of materials when we were finished. Mr. Perry helped the campers experiment with clay on Thursday as they used their found materials to create nature inspired bowls. It was fun to watch them learn special techniques to manipulate the new medium. The result is beautifully crafted bowls.
On Wednesday our Innovation campers did some cooking as part of a soil investigation. It helped them understand the role that worms play in creating healthy soil. Check out the ingredients and what this tasty treat represented below:
Gummy worms - worms
Oreos - rock and stone
Chocolate sprinkles - worm poop
Rainbow sprinkles - decomposing animals
Decorating sprinkles - bits of trash
Chocolate chips - seeds
From plants to animals to mud, we are busy learning and creating with nature at camp.
