During the “Reimagine Make-Believe” and “Perform in a Play” week, campers learned how to think like an actor/actress.
Our youngest curious campers enjoyed acting out some of their favorite books this week. We retold the story “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” It was interesting to hear what our little curious campers enjoyed eating. One child likes to eat “40 strawberries in 10 minutes” another enjoyed eating “blue lollipops!” We were also inspired by the book, “Going on a Bear Hunt.” The campers were brave enough to go on a REAL bear hunt.
This week our 4 year old campers explored storytelling through shadow puppets. Using the book Shadow by Suzy Lee, we experimented with our own shadows on the light projector. The children made their shadows move and dance across the walls, moving closer and farther and watching their shadows change. They made shadow puppets and shared them with their families at the Friday Showcase. In the Art Studio, campers used wood stumps to create characters for a story. They drew scenery for the background of their characters and began telling stories about their characters' adventures. It was exciting to watch their stories come to life this week!
Our 5-10 year old campers worked together so that they could perform in a play. From invitations and programs to costumes and scripts, campers’ have been using their creativity to design a play that our audience will enjoy. This week, campers were busy writing the script, painting scenery, brainstorming costume ideas, and rehearsing their lines.
We hope you enjoy the showcase tomorrow and the play that our 5-10 year olds will perform!
