A cloud is made of water vapor that sticks to dust particles in the air. We watched a video to learn how to make a cloud in a jar and took notes, and made a supply list, so that we could replicate the process in our classroom. We tried the experiment three times, using different sizes of jars to see how the results would change. We poured boiling hot water into a jar to create steam, which we cooled into vapor by placing a plate of ice on the mouth of the jar. Then we used aerosol hairspray to act as dust particles that trap water vapor. Slowly the cloud formed in the jar, and we opened the lid to watch it drift out. |
