Friday Showcases are designed for families to get a peek into all the fun we have been having at summer camp that week. Our first Friday Showcase was a great success. Families came to PJS on Friday eager to see their children's work and our campers were equally as eager to share. Smiles of delight and pride were evident as the campers toured their families around our Commons.
Our Art campers, shared their project, "Framing Faces" which were pictures frames that decorated a black and white portrait of themselves. Over several days, campers worked with paint, tissue paper, glitter and beads to create these pieces. They also shared the result of their water play painting in a group painting called "Body Paintbrushes." To see this project in action, click on the blog 'Splashing Around at Summer Camp.'
We also featured some books that we read throughout the week related to the theme of "You." I wanted to connect you with our PJS summer website which has recommended books for preschoolershttp://windowstotheworld.weebly.com/suggested-reading-for-toddler-and-preschool-students.html as well as children grades K and above. http://windowstotheworld.weebly.com/recommended-reading-for-summer-and-beyond.html. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy some books together this summer.
Our Innovation campers started off the morning sharing their "Magnetic Self-Portraits." More than one parent gasped when they realized the work was magnetic and you could change out the facial features to make new expressions. The surprise pleased our campers very much. : ) In the afternoon, campers were more than excited to share the movie they had been creating with their families. To prepare, we used the air popper to pop some corn and practiced being ushers to seat our families when they arrived. (Very professional - they even made bow ties!) The Case of the Missing Teacher received rave reviews from families and critics. alike I was most impressed that the children had designed the movie every step of the way: from choosing the genre, writing the script, filming the scenes and bringing in props, it was a great production by our campers!
Bravo to all our campers on our first Friday Showcase! I hope to see you all at PJS next Friday for more spectacular sharing!
